Little Rock Homeowner Gets a Whole Home Replumb

Loses heat

Mary in Little Rock, Arkansas, was fed up with her water pressure.

“If I had to be up and ready to go somewhere at 6 a.m., I had to get up at 3 a.m. to draw a bath,” she said. “Washing greens was a half-day ordeal.”

With several young children in the home, the low water pressure made doing anything, from washing to cooking, an ordeal, especially since the issue had gotten so bad that she didn’t have water in the kitchen at all.

Mary didn’t know it, but she had galvanized steel plumbing in her home, which tends to corrode from the inside out. The exterior of the line may appear fine, but, inside, rust is building up, choking off the water supply.

She knew she needed help, and that’s when she was lucky enough to come across Greg with Superior Facility Services, a HomeServe contractor partner that works with the company on a city-wide program available through Service Line Warranties of America by HomeServe.

HomeServe is a leading home repair subscription services administrator, and Greg was familiar with the company’s charitable arm, the HomeServe Cares Foundation. The Foundation provides free home repairs to qualifying homeowners. These repairs impact safety, sanitation or quality of life and are within the scope of services provided by HomeServe. Greg thought that Mary met the criteria for the program and encouraged her to apply.

“I can’t believe I waited so long to have this done. And I thank HomeServe for all that they did for me.”

“Dealing with (the low water pressure) had gotten old,” Mary said. “(Greg) came out here and he was looking at the plumbing to see what could be done, and he went under the house and looked again. He wanted to help me, so I applied for the program, and the next thing I know, HomeServe is calling me and telling me that (Superior Facility Services) was going to come out.”

It was a big job, requiring Superior to replumb the entire house, including running new hot and cold water pipes to the kitchen sink and dishwasher and two bathroom sinks, toilets and tubs, requiring more than 100 feet of new pipes and 20 man hours of labor. Even at the discounted rate Greg and Superior were offering, the cost was $2,100, and Mary, who was living with three small children on her Social Security, could not have afforded it without the Foundation’s help.

“I just didn’t have the money to have it fixed,” she said.

However, thanks to Greg’s foresight in recommending Mary apply for assistance through the Foundation, she didn’t have to worry about finding the money for the repair. Once the application had been approved, the Superior plumbers got to work.

“I was very pleased with their demeanor and how they talked to me,” said Mary. “Some people come in and say, ‘I’m going to do this, and then I’m going to do this,’ and don’t bother to break it down so I can understand it. They told me what they were doing every step of the way. They would knock at the door and tell me, ‘we are doing this now.’”

Within a short time, the repair had been completed, and Mary once again had adequate water pressure throughout her home.

“I can’t believe I waited so long to have this done,” she said. “And I thank HomeServe for all that they did for me.”
